First ETEC 414 Entry

Hi Everybody in ETEC 414,
This is my first post on an actual blog. I have used the blog on my Myspace account sporadically but I don't think it really counts since it is through another program and isn't specifically a blog. Anyway, while browsing through blogs I found that my local newspaper from back home has a blog. It is called the Alliance Review and is like an extension of the paper. Sometimes it goes into more depth on local issues or gives a slightly different view on what was addressed in the paper. I like it because it is an easy way for me to keep up with issues in my hometown. The link is http://www.the-review.com/news/article/4062342

This week in class we have talked about social networking, tips for powerpoint presentations, and blogging. I really enjoy the class because it is hands on and we are learning to use tools that I haven't been acquainted with. I liked the videos that we viewed from the Ning site. The video that demonstrated how a lecture would be if it was operated like a chat-room was really funny. Something I hope we discuss further is how to successfully incorporate technology into the classroom within the time constraints of your class. I know from my own high school experience that using technology was a blast, but a lot of the time we never got to finish our projects since our class periods were only 40 minutes long. A lot of times the teacher only allotted a couple of days to do the assignment and if you weren't able to finish it in the computer lab within that time frame you never had a chance to complete your project. This always bugged me, so I want to make sure that whatever lesson I decide to give the students using technology they are able to complete within the timeframe.
